History
In 1990, when we held the first Earth Drum Council Weekend, there was only one other weekend event on the East Coast of the U.S. where people could go to learn African drumming. There were a handful of drum circles happening around the country, one of which was Drum and Dance Saturday in Cambridge, MA, which we were asked to take over organizing in 1991. More than twenty years later, there are more than 20,000 regularly-scheduled drum circles in the U.S. and many dozens of drum-related events, camps, festivals, and conferences around the country and even around the world. We have been delighted to witness this, and to be a part of this proliferation of drumming. Here is some history from our perspective.
